We have finally decided on all the powdered food we are taking after trying out some Ultra Fuel for recovery post stage, and for during the long stage. I particularly liked the way the strawberry flavoured powder (Em had banana) congealed at the bottom of the bottle because I hadn't mixed it sufficiently the night before. This made it quite chewy which actually was rather pleasant after 300m of not far off vertical altitude gain. We'll be repackaging all our powdered food in due course to save weight.
When we first entered the race - in May of 2016, we had trawled through previous results and could not find a previous father / daughter finishing team where the female was in her teens. We decided to get MdS organisation to double check this going all the way back to 1984 now that we have our places confirmed, and unfortunately this is not the case.
There have been 7 different father / daughter teams in the MdS over the years. Of these, 5 of the daughters were in their late 20's or early 30's. Two of the daughters have been exactly 16. Of these, 1 did finish, in 2002 (the other abandoned with her father after the first day). So Emily will not be the youngest ever female entrant, but she will be equal in age to the youngest, and the first one was back in 2002.
Of course a lot can happen during the race itself, but Emily is hugely motivated to finish, particularly given we have raised just over £3000 of our £19500 target, making her only joint equal youngest, and the first one for 15 years, if (when) we can do it!
