Another blood clot ensued, and followed by a minor knee niggle that has dogged me ever since. The Helsinki marathon passed as a nice dress rehearsal for the UTMB on one of the hottest days Finland had ever seen, and then 2 weeks later the UTMB had to be re routed, and shortened, to take into account unseasonally heavy snowfalls making much of the planned route impassable. A huge disappointment to still have not achieved a 100 miler, but happy to have gotten the UTMB out of the way relatively unscathed. A week later, and 11 out of 12 Spartans celebrated my 40th birthday in style, crossing the finish line of the Marathon du Medoc. 30th overall at the Gorbio trail marathon and 10th in my age group, and then another leg injury saw me cross the finish line of the Nice - Cannes marathon in a hugely disappointing 3hr 45. Then the No Finish Line, 56th overall and 11th in my age group with 317km covered in 8 days. Followed by a pb 42 mins 10km - hilly and cross country too (although short). As a family we even managed
In all this year I have covered 2903km on foot, and 3000km on the bikes, with quite a bit of swimming too. In all a massive acheivement, peppered with some pretty big ones along the way, although with some low points and disappointments too - but I won't dwell on those. The end of the year sees me with a knee injury, and although cycling has been ok, the running has been on and off. for the last few weeks. December has been a blow out month - as usual, and - as usual - January will be a month of austerity, and getting back on track. I have as yet nailed down my plans for 2013, but I already have spots secured for two 100 milers, my second and third choices for those, but I still have to hear about my entry for my first choice. We will see about that one!
I hope you have had a great 2012 littered with little and hopefully big achievements and milestones, and let's look forward to moving onwards and upwards in 2013!
